Input, please!

I'm getting ready to put together our registry for Laura and I need some help. Do you have any favorite baby items that you would recommend purchasing or registering for before Laura arrives? Also, thank you to those of you who have already voted in the diaper poll. We're considering cloth diapers, but I'd like to hear from those of you who have voted. Can you give me some insight on why you chose cloth or disposable (and the particular brand of cloth diapers you chose)? Thank you so much for your suggestions! Please leave comments for us! :)

  1. Hi Friend!
I have been using disposable diapers on Kate since she's been born but have recently considered switching to cloth. I have been doing LOTS of research so if you'd like me to email you let me know!

  2. Hi Heather!
So happy to see that things continue to go well with your pregnancy.
I had really wanted to go with cloth diapers and had tried with prefold system and diaper covers (from a website called wiggle worm bottoms). While I had the best of intentions, somehow, it just didn't work out for us. Part of it was probably laziness on my part, but I just ended up feeling as if disposables were easier especially in the first few weeks when she did her business all the time with the breastfeeding and she was colicky. I tried to find the least harmful brand to the environment and ended up with Seventh Generation disposables. They don't contain chlorine or dioxin which when broken down has been shown to be a carcinogen. There are some other in between options. I am thinking about with baby #2 trying the G diapers. They have a cloth outer cover and disposale/flushable/compost-able inserts.

As far as things to register for:
We loved the miracle blanket (a type of swaddle blanket), a Graco stroller frame (which our car seat clicked into- instead of getting the whole travel system), Medela Advance Pump in Style breast pump, lots of onesies!

If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me. Hope all else is well! Take care!

    Catherine

  3. Hi Heather,
I used both cloth and disposable. What I considered the best was cloth diapers with a diaper service, especially from newborn to when they eat solids. When they are only getting breast milk, (sorry to be graphic, but you asked.) their stools are more liquid and the cloth diapers were more absorbent. They also could be used as burping cloths or anything else you needed. You used the diaper, put it in the tight-lidded pail the company gives you, put the bag out on your porch and they bring you clean new ones. I did not have odor or cleaning problems and the service cost no more than if I were buying disposable diapers. I did wash my own for awhile and that wasn't too bad, but the diaper service was the best. My input for what it's worth.

  4. Hey Heather! I went through alot of research and debating on cloth diapers as well. We did decide to go the route of cloth diapers with the brand BumGenius. Here are is a link I found helpful, plus it gives links to other helpful sites: http://www.passionatehomemaking.com/2009/02/bumgenius-redeemed.html
I looked at many websites, which I'm sure you've really been doing. I won't go into details as to why I chose cloth (you can check my blog for that) but I will tell you some reasons why I chose BumGenius. It seemed easier/more convenient, better for the baby, and more like disposable (plus I know alot of people who know and use them). There are lots of perks, but one neat thing is they have awesome customer service -- they work hard to make sure you're happy. The best website to order them through, which is a Christian company, is cottonbabies.com.
As for the registry, make sure you put things on there you need like a travel system (you need an infant car seat and a stroller is nice to have) and a place for the baby to sleep. I do recommend getting a Boppy. One particular thing Dan is excited to hopefully get is a reclining glider -- very comfortable! Oh, and Lamaze toys are great (real scientific research behind their toys). Don't be afraid to put what you really want on the registry.
I hope this, and posts from others, will be helpful for you!

  5. Hi, this is Kenzie!
I think you should use cloth diapers.
Another thing I would suggest is that you should buy a rocking chair and a PINK one at that.

    Bye,bye
I'm doing better in school too!
